Types of oregano
There are over 40 species of oregano. The most commonly used is culinary Origanum vulgare. In addition to killing bacteria, oregano oil has potent antiviral activity, but also protects against flu, colds and mumps.
The aggressive anti-fungal properties of oregano oil prevents stubborn infections such as candidiasis, fungus on nails and scalp as well as athlete’s foot.
Oregano oil could become a part of therapy for the treatment of cancer. Scientists have tested the operation of carvacrol on prostate cancer cells. It turns out that carvacrol causes a condition called apoptosis – the self-destruction of cancer cells.
