The survey of American scientists, whose results were published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, found that increasing the intake of coffee can reduce the risk of the most dangerous form of skin cancer or melanoma.

Previous studies have shown that moderate consumption of coffee may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

The study included 447 357 persons. Participants were asked to complete a questionnaire that included questions about their dietary habits, including frequency of consumption of coffee. The study lasted 10.5 years, and during that period around 2905 participants developed melanoma.

The results showed that, as participants take more coffee, it’s the risk of melanoma was lower. Drinking four cups of coffee a day the risk of melanoma is reduced by as much as 20%.

These results remained the same even when the researchers took into account other factors, such as age, gender, body mass index, frequency of alcohol consumption, history of smoking and exposure to UV rays.

Scientists point out that in the prevention of melanoma important step is protection during exposure to UV rays.

Before you increase your intake of coffee be sure to consult with your doctor, especially if you suffer from certain diseases and medications you are taking.
